The SA National Defence Force says two soldiers have been shot dead in the eastern Free State, allegedly by a third soldier.
SANDF brigadier-general Xolani Mabanga says a criminal investigation is underway.
He says the three were travelling from the Fouriesburg Military Base to the Kromdraai temporary base in a military vehicle at the time of the shooting on Friday.
Mabanga says 24-year-old gunner ML Hlubi, appeared in court on Monday for the murders of Lieutenant Thabiso Seithati and gunner Zakhe Khumalo.
He will be back in court again on the 4th of March.
"We do not know the circumstances that lead to the shooting, but in terms of internal procedures there is an inquiry to ascertain the circumstances which lead to the killing. The murder was reported to SAPS who will investigate it" Mabangu said.
