Hundreds of people heeded the call on Saturday morning to line Buffelsfontein Road in Port Elizabeth to take a stance against crime following the death in the line of duty of PE flying squad member Dwane Kemp.
Constable Kemp's funeral took place at the NG Kerk Hoogland in Constance Road, Charlo and was attended by police minister Bheki Cele, Provincial police commissioner Lieutenant-general Liziwe Ntshinga, and other high ranking police officers.
The funeral procession headed down Willam Moffet Drive and then right into Buffelsfontein road at 17th avenue - hundreds of cars and hundreds of people lined the streets to show their support.
The funeral procession was led by six police officers on horseback.
The church was filled to capacity and in his address at the service, Minister Cele said Constable Kemp had died while serving the nation. "To the family; walk tall and be proud," he said. "I personally as the Minister of Police am very proud of Constable Kemp. The 5th suspect must be found and arrested."
Constable Kemp died on Monday, hours after being shot and wounded in a shoot-out with armed robbers at the Le Bon bakery in Central. His colleague returned fire, killing four of the robbers inside the bakery.
The search for the 5th suspect continues.
"Constable Kemp died while serving the nation. To the family, walk tall and be proud," said Police Minister Bheki Cele speaking at the funeral of Constable Dwane Kemp.
