At least six people were killed in a car accident whena truck hit the car and dragged it for almost 150 metres where it came to a halt on N3 near Harrismith, police said on Friday.
“It is alleged that on Thursday at about 23:30 the driver of red Nissan Almera sedan with GP registrations was driving with five other occupants including a toddler of 8 months (boy) from Gauteng on their way to Eastern Cape,” police spokesperson Sergeant Mmako Mophiring said.
“It is further alleged that the driver was trying to join the road when the oncoming truck hit the car and dragged it for almost 150 metres where it came to a halt. Therefore, four people died instantly on the scene whilst other two died on their arrival at separate hospitals in Harrismith.”
Mophiring said case of culpable homicide was being investigated and the names of the deceased cannot be release yet, until their next of kin has formally and positively identified them.
