Khusta Jack happy with PE anti-Zuma protest

Save South Africa regional organiser, Mkhuseli Jack, said he was pleased with the turn out at Friday's protest rally in Port Elizabeth.

Hundreds of people gathered at the Vuyisile Mini Square in front of City Hall calling for President, Jacob Zuma to step down.

Speaking to the media following the two-hour rally, Jack said he was more pleased with the diverse crowd.

Jack said SaveSA will hold it's final anti-Zuma march in Nelson Mandela Bay on 27 April in Zwide.

"I'm so  encouraged that the job ahead we are going to embark upon it with vigour and vitality. I am convinced we would have done our job even if we were to lose, if you call it losing, but at least the children in the future will never say you did nothing about it" he said.

Algoa FM News spoke to several people who attended the Friday's rally.

Psychology student, who only gave her name as Michaela, said that she "took the day off because I think it's important that we stand together and unite".

Another resident, Esté Havenga, said she felt it was time for all South Africans, regardless of race or sex to stand together for one common purpose and that is to save our country".

"I'm here today to protest against the raping of our country's resources. I'm an environmental activist and I feel strongly that our country is being exploited by the likes of the Guptas that are wreaking havoc with our natural resources and will end up polluting our entire environment leading to poverty," said Urshi Wiblin.

Hundreds of people also marched to the East London City Hall to call for President Zuma to step down.

The SAPS in the Eastern Cape said permission had been granted for protests in several cities and towns.
