Six people were killed in a head-on collision between a Toyota Avanza and a BMW on the R30 near Welkom in the Free State on Sunday morning.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Thandi Mbambo says it is alleged that the driver of the BMW lost control in a bend and collided head-on with the Avanza.
She says three family members in the Avanza, a 43-year old woman, two toddlers as well as the male driver who was not related to the family, were declared dead at the scene.
Mbambo says the husband and their 13-year-old daughter were rushed to a local hospital.
She says two of the four people in the BMW also died at the scene, while a man and a woman were taken to hospital.
It was revealed that the family in the Avanza were en route to Elliotdale in Eastern Cape.
