Police in Cape Town have seized counterfeit goods valued at over R100 million after a search warrant was obtained for a shopping complex close to the Belville taxi rank.
According to police, a search warrant was executed leading to the discovery of truckloads of fake clothing, jewellery and perfumes.
Upon the arrival of SAPS, shopkeepers abandoned their stores and fled the scene, resulting in no arrests.
The takedown operation was conducted by SAPS, Customs and Excise and brand protectors from various popular products.
Thirty vehicles used to store stock in the parking area of the complex were also seized.
The Provincial Commissioner of the Western Cape police, Lt Gen (Adv) TE Patekile issued a warning to building owners and landlords who are well aware of the illegal activities on their premises that they are also in the sights of SAPS.
