The EFF’s Floyd Shivambu will be facing a disciplinary process in Parliament.
The Speaker of the National Assembly, Baleka Mbete, said in a statement on Thursday that the matter pertains to his conduct during a plenary sitting last year.
“He refused to comply with the directives of the presiding officer during the sitting,” Mbete said.
She said the matter will be heard by the newly established Disciplinary Committee.
“The Disciplinary Committee was established in terms of Rule 216 of the Assembly. It has the functions and powers to investigate alleged misconduct and report to the Speaker,” Mbete added.
She said the Disciplinary Committee “may not investigate a charge against an MP relating to contempt of Parliament in terms of the Powers and Privileges Act, or a breach of the Code of Conduct contained in the Schedule to the Joint Rules.
