Seven people have died while seven more sustained injuries when a bakkie they were travelling in overturned on the R408 between Engcobo and Dutywa.
The Eastern Cape Transport Department said that the accident happened on Tuesday shortly after 6 pm.
Spokesperson, Unathi Binqose, said initial indications were that the driver lost control over the vehicle which overturned.
He said seven people were declared dead on the scene, while the injured were rushed to a hospital.
A culpable homicide docket has been opened.
