Seven suspects are due to appear in courts on Monday for two shooting incidents at schools in Kwazulu Natal which left a principal and a compliance officer dead.
The incidents happened on Friday in different parts of KZN.
Police said in one incident a 26-year-old woman, who is a compliance officer, was shot and killed inside the premises of a school in Vumbu Reserve in Maphumulo.
Spokesperson, Brigadier Jay Naicker, said two men armed with a shotgun and a knife, were intercepted by police in a forest.
“One man was shot and fatally wounded during the skirmish whilst the other man was arrested,” he said.
In another incident, a 46-year-old school principal was shot and killed at a school in Msinga at noon, also on Friday.
Naicker said police intercepted a teacher’s car that the men had hijacked and arrested six suspects.
“Police seized an R-5 rifle, two revolvers and 65 rounds of ammunition as well as eight cell phones and the hijacked vehicle.”
The suspects face charges of murder, attempted murder, car hijacking and the "illegal" possession of firearms and ammunition.
KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant-General Khombinkosi Jula congratulated the police officers for their rapid response in both incidents, but also condemned the attacks at the two schools.
