A senior manager attached to the Environmental Crime Investigative Unit (CIU) at SANParks was stormed and killed by a hippopotamus on Saturday.
Kobus De Wet who was based at Groenkloof in Pretoria was camping at the Kruger National Park when the tragedy occurred.
South African National Parks announced De Wet's passing on their social media platforms.
"Details are still sketchy at this stage and circumstances around the incident are under investigation," read the brief statement.
SANParks Executive Management sent out sincere condolences to his immediate family, friends and the SANParks family.
