Gauteng police say maximum resources have been mobilised following a cash-in-transit robbery in the Mondeor policing precinct in Johannesburg during which a woman was hijacked.
Police spokesperson, Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, said she was forced to take fleeing CIT gang members to Soweto where she was left unharmed.
She said men fled in other get away vehicles.
Mathe said the drama took place on Saturday morning when between 15 and 20 men attacked a cash vehicle causing it to overturn and crash and blasting it open to get to the money.
“During the CIT heist, four guards attached to Fidelity were injured and taken to hospital. One sustained gunshot wounds while the others sustained injuries after the cash vehicle overturned."
Mathe said a multi-disciplinary team, with air support, has been activated to search for the gang who got away in five separate vehicles and with an undisclosed amount of cash.
