A Fidelity Guards security officer and an armed robbery suspect were killed in a shootout near Pienaar in Mpumalanga on Thursday.
Police said two armed men had cornered the Fidelity Guards vehicle which was escorting a Clover truck doing deliveries when the gunfight erupted.
Spokesperson, Brigadier Leonard Hlati, said one of the guards who reacted swiftly shot one of the suspects.
“The other suspect then retaliated and shot the guard who was sitting on the passenger's side before fleeing the scene.,” he said.
Hlati said all roleplayers were summoned to the scene where both the guard and suspect were certified dead.
A manhunt is underway for the remaining suspect.
