A manhunt is underway for a group of armed men following a robbery that claimed the life of a G4S security official.
Police spokesperson, Brigadier Motantsi Makhele, said the incident occurred at around 11:45 in the suburb of Heidedal on Monday.
He said the security officials were collecting cash from a local supermarket when they were accosted by the robbers.
They disarmed the security official and took the cash before fatally wounding him.
Brigadier Makhele said police recovered a vehicle at the scene which was hijacked in Mangaung earlier.
The National Commissioner of the SAPS, General Khehla Sitole has instructed Free State police to mobilise all resources in implementing the 72-hour activation plan in a bid to apprehend those responsible.
