Police in Phuthaditjhaba in the Free State are searching for a suspect in a burglary case who had a piece of his nose bitten off by a security guard.
The incident happened in the early hours of Saturday morning in Qwa-Qwa when the guard got into a fight with one of two men who tried to break into the church that he was guarding.
Warrant Officer Mmako Mophiring said when the suspects demanded the keys to the church the security guard fought with one of the men. She said he "managed to bite the suspect's nose, removing a piece which was later found on the ground."
Mophiring said the suspect also bit the finger of the security guard before fleeing in "pain".
A case of attempted burglary is being investigated.
