Mpumalanga police arrested a 53-year-old security company director on a charge of perjury for allegedly selling dozens of firearms to another security company and then reporting weapons stolen.
Police spokesperson, Brigadier Donald Mdhluli, said the business owner is facing a charge of perjury after subsequently filing a false report of theft of firearms.
He said the sale was legitimate and the firearms had been registered by the new owner.
Mdhluli said the businessman was due to appear in court on Wednesday.
He said more charges could also be added as the investigation continues.
