Second warrant of arrest issued for Bushiris

A second warrant of arrest has been issued for the fugitive and self-proclaimed prophet Sheperd Bushiri and his wife, Mary.

The warrant was issued at the North Gauteng High Court today where the matter was postponed to the 7th of December to formally withdraw their bail of R100 000 each.

In this instance, the Bushiris are facing charges of fraud, money laundering and the contravention of the Prevention of Organised Crime Act to an amount of R15 million.

They are also accused of contravening South Africa’s exchange control regulations by paying about R19 million in cash for a private jet.

This is an entirely separate matter to the case in which they were released on bail of R200 000 each on the 4th of November and then subsequently skipped the country back to Malawi.

The couple face charges of fraud, theft and money laundering involving over R100 million rand in this instance.

Bushiri is the founder of the Enlightened Christian Gathering with branches throughout Africa.

ENCA reported on Wednesday that the couple had handed themselves over to police in Malawi.
