The carcass of the second rhino killed in 2013 was found in the Madikwe Game Reserve on Monday night.
The North West environmental affairs department says rangers in the park heard shots at about 7.45pm.
Spokesperson Dumisa Seshabela says the rhino's horn was not removed and it is suspected that the poachers were disturbed.
The carcass of the first rhino killed in 2013 was found in the same reserve on Saturday evening.
No arrests have been made.
