Search for missing miners called off

 The search for at least 20 illegal miners at the closed Gravelotte gold mine on the East Rand, has been called off.

Trade union Solidarity says all recovery work was called off late yesterday, and the mine tunnel would be sealed.

Deputy general secretary Gideon du Plessis says only one body could be recovered, because the area is unstable.

A group of men were apparently mining illegally, when there was a rockfall on Thursday.
