Government and Eskom have promised to keep the lights on even though they are facing a constrained power supply compared to the demand.
Public Enterprises minsiter Malusi Gigaba addressed a business breakfast on energy sufficiency in Pretoria on Monday morning.
He urged South Africans to save 10 percent of their regular energy usage by switching off what they don't need.
Meanwhile, Gigaba's appeal was echoed by Eskom chairperson, Zola Tsotsi.
Speaking at the same function, he urged all South Africans to continue using electricity sparingly, as power generation remains under pressure.
Tsotsi, says future generations will suffer if energy saving was not prioritised by every individual in the country.
He made a call to action for everyone to be energy efficient.
