Two suspected cash-in-transit robbers were killed in a shootout with police in Centurion on Saturday.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Athlenda Mathe, said members of a multi-disciplinary team were following up on “intelligence-driven information when they intercepted a group of armed suspects along John Voster Road in Centurion.
“During the interception, two robbers were fatally wounded during a shootout with police. Three AK47 automatic rifles were recovered,” Mathe said.
Meanwhile, Saturday’s incident came just days after nine suspected CIT robbers were killed in a shootout with police in Sobekeng earlier in the week.
Police said that the gang had been planning a robbery on that day.
Meanwhile, Mathe said during that operation, members of the National Anti-Kidnapping Task Team rescued two teenage boys after they were kidnapped in the South of Johannesburg.
She said three suspects were arrested and are due to appear in court soon.
