Gauteng police have made a major breakthrough in the fight against child pornography by arresting three suspected online predators.

They were arrested this week in operations carried out with the US Department of Homeland Security.

National police spokesperson, Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, said a 63-year-old British national, who is in the country illegally, was arrested in Springs on a charge of beastiality.

She said the other two suspects, who are both 43 years old, were arrested in Benoni and Krugersdorp, respectively.

Mathe said all three suspects were allegedly involved in the manufacturing, distribution, and downloading of child pornography.

Three children believed to have been used in the commission of these crimes were identified by the police, while a dog was also rescued.

The three appeared in courts in Springs, Benoni, and Krugersdorp on Monday where their cases were postponed for further investigation and bail applications.

Algoa FM News has, over the past months, reported on several cases involving alleged perpetrators of sex crimes against children.

Sixty-five-year-old Lukas Rudman who is accused of raping and sexually exploiting young girls in Kwa Nojoli, formerly Somerset East, is awaiting judgment in the High Court in Makhanda and this is expected on 21 November.

In another case, a 43-year-old grade seven teacher from Mossel Bay on the Garden Route is on trial for rape, sexual grooming, and sexual assault.

A 36-year-old man from Welkom in the Free State, Mario Guisti, was also recently sentenced to more than 8000 thousand years in jail following his conviction for the rape of two boys, human trafficking, and the possession, creation, and distribution of child pornography.
