A man convicted of poaching in Kruger National Park has been jailed for an effective 11 years after being found guilty on six counts in the Skukuza regional court.
South African National Parks, (SANParks), welcomed the sentence imposed on Elias Sithole on Thursday.
Spokesperson, JP Louw, said that the Sithole was arrested in KNP in January 2020 during a special operation.
He said rangers spotted a suspicious vehicle on a gravel road between Skukuza and Pretoriuskop and flagged it down.
After a brief chase, two men jumped out and fled into the bush, while the driver, Sithole, stayed behind and was arrested after claiming that he was hijacked.
Louw said a rifle, ammunition and two knives were found inside the vehicle.
