Cape Town disaster risk management centre says salvaging operations of a 50 metre Japanese fishing trawler, that ran aground at First Beach in Clifton yesterday, will resume on Sunday.
Spokesperson, Wilfred Solomons-Johannes says the positioning and presence of the vessel has the potential to undermine the environmental, economic, and social potential of a key area of the coastline.
He says there are reportedly 90 tons of fuel and ammonia on board.
Solomons-Johannes says it is not known what made the trawler run aground. Its engines are in working order and generators continue to work.
He says thick fog is suspected to have played a role.
