A 50 metre fishing trawler ran aground at First Beach in Clifton, Cape Town on Saturday morning.
The National Sea Rescue Institutesays all people aboard are safe at this stage, but with an incoming tide, that may change.
NSRI spokesperson, Craig Lambinon says the Japanese trawler is about 20 metres off-shore in the wave-line, and rescue efforts are underway.
City of Cape Town disaster risk management spokesperson, Wilfred Solomons-Johannes says a 28 person crew, including a dog, are aboard the trawler.
He says at this stage there is no immediate risk of oil pollution to the coastline as a result of the stranding of the vessel.
