SADTU calls on public servants and teachers not to resign

The SA Democratic Teachers' Union is calling on public servants and teachers not to resign following an un-founded rumour that members may lose some benefits and money.

SADTU Deputy General Secretary, Nkosana Dolopi, says the rumour has been spread by people who want to confuse others by encouraging public servants to resign.

The rumours may have emerged after the Government Employees Pension Fund announced a pension reform, but this would not happen as the law governing the pension fund has not changed as yet.

Dolopi says public servants will not lose money from their pension funds.

"If there will be any change to their benefits, to their pensions funds, that will be done in consultation with members, for now it is a rumour. There are discussions, and that's what we must emphasise, there are discussions to look at the other provident funds and look how they can maybe effect some changes to it, but those changes are not linked to government employee pension fund, they are not linked to the public servants." says Dolopi.
