A Cape Town surfer has been airlifted hospital after being bitten by a suspected Great White shark at a Muizenberg Beach.
NSRI spokesperson, Craig Lambinon, says they were activated shortly after 14:00 on Friday following a report of the incident.
He says the 20-year-old man, who's originally from Durban, is in a stable condition with multiple lacerations to his lower limbs and an avulsion to the left thigh.
Lambinon says a member of the public provided first aid treatment on the scene prior to paramedics arriving.
"At the time of the incident the black shark flag was flying by the shark spotters indicating poor water and weather visibility. A bystander approached the shark spotters to inform them they had seen a shark fin in the water. The incident happened at the same time that the shark spotters siren was being activated." says Lambinon.
