South Africa’s confirmed coronavirus cases increased by 218, to 927 cases.

The number of confirmed cases in the Eastern Cape has now also risen to five.

Health Minister, Dr Zweli Mkhize, said Gauteng now has 409 confirmed cases, followed by the Western Cape with 229 cases.

KwaZulu-Natal now has 134 confirmed cases, while the Free State has 49.

The North West province has five cases, while Mpumalanga has nine. Limpopo has six cases and the Northern Cape has only two confirmed cases.

Minister Mkhize said there were 79 cases un-allocated to a province.

The latest figures came out just hours before the 21-day lockdown kicked in at midnight on Thursday.
