South Africa's bid to be the location for the Square Kilometre Array radio telescope underscores the theme for this year's opening of parliament in Cape Town tomorrow.
Parliamentary speaker, Max Sisulu, said yesterday that development opportunities and the knowledge-economy is the slogan for this year's parliamentary opening.
South Africa is competing with Australia to be the site for the radio telescope.
A decision on the location of the SKA core site is expected to be made in April by the international consortium behind the 1.5 billion euro project.
