Cycling SA comfirmed South African mountain bike ace Burry Stander died in a collision on Thursday.
CSA spokesperson Mylene Loumeau said Burry was returning from a training ride in Shelly Beach, on the KZN south coast and was allegedly hit by a taxi.
The 25 year old Stander was fifth in the men's cross country race at the 2012 London Olympics.
He was married to elite road cyclist Cherise Taylor in May last year.
An emotional Loumeau said Stander would be missed by the SA cycling community.
