A new statutory body says South Africa needs a clear national strategy to combat illegal gambling.
The National Gambling and Liquor Policy Council was established on Friday and consists of the Minister of Trade and Industry, Rob Davies and the provincial MEC's for economic development.
Davies says the council agrees that the extent of illegal gambling in the country should be assessed while noting challenges faced in curbing this ill.
He said the National Gambling Board has been mandated to prepare an action plan on curbing illegal gambling and report on it at the next meeting.
