The SA Medical Association Trade Union has welcomed yesterday's guilty verdict against apartheid era weapons expert, Dr Wouter Basson.
Basson was found guilty by the Health Professions Council of South Africa of professional misconduct.
The Council found him guilty on five charges and acquitted him on one charge.
SAMA says the verdict is a clear message to all practicing medical practitioners never to be used by any state to participate in their wars.

"We welcome the verdict which confirms that ethics in our practice supersedes the law. It will then give the message to us who are practising that none of us should vow to treasure the authority and then end up compromising our ethical obligations which guides how we should conduct ourselves in our daily practice" she said
