The Department of International Relations says South Africa contributed 4 million US dollars for airlifting and shipping aid from Southern Africa Development Community countries to Somalia.
Department spokesperson, Clayson Monyela says at least six SADeC member states -- Angola, Botswana, Mozambique, Namibia, Tanzania and Zambia -- provided more than 8-thousand tons of perishable and non-perishable goods, food and other relief supplies to the country in the Horn of Africa.
He says the contributions were made following a SADC summit decision in August last year, to provide civil-war torn Somalia with material and monetary support.
