South African employers reported cautiously optimistic hiring intentions for the period between April and June.
That's according to the findings of the Manpower Group Employment Outlook Survey for quarter two of 2017.
CEO, Lindy van den Barselaar, said 12% of employer respondents expected to increase staffing levels, five percent forecast a decrease while 81% percent no change in their employment numbers.
She said employers in all ten industry sectors had forecast an increase in payrolls during the upcoming quarter.
"Transport, storage and communication sector employers reported the strongest hiring intentions with a net employment outlook of +15%. The outlook stands at +11% in both the agriculture, hunting, forestry and fishing sector as well as the finance, insurance and business services sector. Meanwhile, the most cautious outlook of +1% is reported by mining and quarrying sector employers," she said.
Van den Barselaar adds that workforce gains are anticipated in all five reporting regions during the upcoming quarter.
"The strongest labour market is forecast in Western Cape, where employers report a net employment outlook of +14%. Elsewhere, employers report cautiously optimistic outlooks of +9% in both Free State and Kwazulu Natal while the outlook stands at +6% and +4% in Eastern Cape and Gauteng respectively," said Van den Barselaar.
