SA comms minister extends period of SABC acting executives

Communications Minister, Ayanda Dlodlo, on Thursday extended the appointments of the three acting executives at SA Broadcasting Corporation (SABC), including the acting chief executive until the vacancies are filled on a permanent basis.

This comes as President Jacob Zuma is yet to approve the SABC’s permanent board members after the interim board’s term of office expired at the end of September.

Parliament completed interviews three weeks prior to the interim board’s end of term on September 26 and submitted its recommended board members’ list to Zuma to make a final decision on the appointments.

Dlodlo extended the appointments of group chief executive Nomsa Philiso, chief operations officer Bassie Tugwana, and chief financial officer Thabile Dlamini. The acting appointment period for all three executives was to expire at midnight on Thursday.

The Memorandum of Incorporation of the SABC empowers Dlodlo to extend the CEO, COO, and CFO’s appointments for an extended period after their stipulated three months tenure expires.

“I hope this will enhance the stability, ensure continuity and facilitate a seamless transition and a proper handover process for the incoming board,” Dlodlo said in a statement.
