Law enforcement authorities have seized 17 rhino horns found at a warehouse in Kempton Park.
The find was made on Monday following a raid by a multi-disciplinary team made up of the Hawks' Serious Organised Crime Investigation, Crime Intelligence, SARS Customs officials as well as officials from the Department of Environmental Affairs.
Police spokesperson, Captain Ndivhuwo Mulamu, said authorities received information about a suspicious consignment dropped off at the warehouse and declared as chicken food mixture destined for Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia.
"Upon searching the consignment, authorities found a large blue geyser and discovered seventeen big and small rhino horns weighing about 72.40kg wrapped in foil inside," Mulaumu said.
No arrests were made but police are following up on information about the identity of a suspect in the matter.
