Kwazulu Natal police have arrested two suspects for the brutal murder of a 58-year-old farmer, his wife and the farmer’s elderly father in Bishopstowe at Pietermaritzburg.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Thembeka Mbele, said they were found by their son on Monday afternoon.
She said the bodies of Daniel Debruin was found a few metres away from the main house, while his wife Glynis (60) was found inside the kitchen and De Bruin’s 84-year-old father, Collin, was found just outside his room.
She said they all had stab wounds to the neck and head.
Mbele said it was alleged that there was a dispute between De Bruin and his employees, with two of them “not pleased with their employer’s decision”. She said the farm was closed and the employees moved to a nearby informal settlement.
She said the suspects arrived at De Bruin’s farm tuck shop earlier in the day where they “bought chips and passed some remarks” at the deceased’s son.
Mbele said later on the son was contacted by another farmer informing him that his father’s farm was on fire. She said when he tried to call his parents there was no response.
She said Detectives from Bishopstowe and Mountain Rise K9 unit, arrested the suspects, aged 27 and 35, at an informal settlement in Copesville near Pietermaritzburg on Tuesday.
They are due to appear in court on Thursday on charges of murder.
