The retrenchment of nearly 14 000 mine workers at Anglo American Platinum has been postponed to allow for a detailed
consultation process to take place.
The mineral resources department, Amplats and unions met yesterday and decided to postpone the Section 189 process under the Labour Relations Act.
They said in a joint statement that the meeting resolved to expedite the consultation process and take no more than 60 days, beginning on the 30th of January.
Amplats announced the retrenchments on the 15th of January.
About 13 000 of the affected workers are in the Rustenburg area in North West Province.
