Regulations adjusted as SA exits 4th wave of Covid

Cabinet has approved changes to Alert Level 1 regulations after the Department of Health reported that South Africa has exited the fourth wave nationally.

The rationale for the amendments is informed by the path of the pandemic, levels of vaccination and because the proportion of people with immunity to Covid19 has risen substantially.

The following changes are effective immediately:

  • People who test positive with no symptoms do not have to isolate.
  • The isolation period for a person who tests positive has been reduced from 10 to seven days.
  • Covid19 contacts do not have to isolate unless they develop symptoms.
  • Secondary, Primary and special schools will return to daily attendance and social distancing of 1 meter has been removed.

The Ministers of Health and Basic Education will in the coming days' issue directives reflecting on this new approach.

The wearing of masks is still mandatory.
