Parliament's portfolio committee has condemned the recent attacks on tourists, in particular, Saturday's murder on Chapmans Peak in Cape Town.
A Ukranian man was attacked, robbed and murdered by three people whilst hiking in the Table Mountain National Park on Saturday.
The Chairperson Supra Mahumapelo commended the neighbourhood watch for apprehending the suspect and called on police to act swiftly on catching his accomplices.
SANParks have meanwhile deployed 55 rangers to patrol the Table Mountain National Park.
Mahumapelo says is a statement that tour operators have noted that perceptions about crime in SA had a negative impact on tourism.
The Portfolio Committee on Tourism sends their condolences to the family of the deceased tourist and the people of Ukraine and vows to do all in its power to coordinate activities to ensure that such heinous crimes against tourists are not repeated.
They also made reference to the recent armed robbery at the luxury Mount Nelson Hotel in Cape Town.
