ACDP leader Kenneth Meshoe says the re-election of Jacob Zuma as ANC president could play into the hands of opposition parties in the 2014 election.
He was reacting to Tuesday's announcement that Zuma had garnered nearly 3 times more votes than Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe at the ANC's elective conference in Mangaung.
Reverend Meshoe said many people who are unhappy with Zuma would want to see a stronger opposition.
"With Mr Zuma leading the election team it is going to cost the ANC a number of votes and also it is going to cause many people to want to strengthen the opposition, because to have a strong ruling party that we have right now is not healthy for democracy" Meshoe said.
