Popular musician and television personality Molemo ‘Jub Jub’ Maarohanye was granted R10 000 bail in the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court on Thursday on charges of rape, attempted murder and assault.
He was arrested on Wednesday after handing himself over at Brixton Police Station.
Gauteng NPA spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane says there are four complainants.
She says Jub Jub was released on parole in 2017 after being sentenced to 25 years for culpable homicide for killing four pupils during a drag racing crash in Soweto in 2010.
Maarohanye said after his release that being incarcerated had changed his personality dramatically, citing his relationship with God as keeping him going.
One of the complainants laid a rape charge with SAPS in February 2022 against Maarohanye, her former boyfriend.
Mjonondwane says the alleged incidents of rape happened between 2006 and 2009 while she was in a relationship with him.
She further stated that she attempted to report the matter at Mondeor SAPS back then, but was turned away.
Mjonondwane says after 'Jub Jub' made degrading comments about her on a podcast she decided to break her silence.
The NPA says since then more women came forward who shared their stories about the humiliation and abuse they suffered at the hands of the accused.
Three more women, who were also in a relationship with the accused were willing to give their statements.
Maarohanye will be back in court on the 24th of August.
