The Department of Health says as of Tuesday this week, rapid antigen test results will now be included in the COVID-19 statistics.
Up until now, only laboratory-confirmed tests have been included.
Rapid antigen tests are offered across the country in both the private and public sectors.
According to the department, antigen tests provide easier access to testing and provide results within 15 to 20 minutes.
According to the National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD), the Covid numbers have increased in Gauteng especially in people between the ages of 10 and 29
The latest Covid stats provided by the NICD on Tuesday evening reported 868 new COVID-19 cases that have been identified with another 50 deaths recorded.
Most of the new cases were recorded in Gauteng (605).
