A 32-year-old man who had part of his tongue bitten off while allegedly trying to rape a Bloemfontein doctor made a brief court appearance on Friday.
Police said that the case against Vice Olivier of Bronville in the Free State was postponed for further investigation.
His court appearance was a sequel to an incident at the Pelonomi Hospital's staff quarters on Tuesday night when he allegedly tried to rape a student doctor.
"During the encounter, the doctor was able to overpower the suspect and bit part off part of his tongue," police said.
Olivier fled and went to a state hospital for treatment where he was arrested.
He has been remanded in custody pending his next court appearance.
