A British man suffering from a medical condition was given emergency evacuation off the Queen Mary 2 on Thursday.
The National Rescue Institute (NSIR) confirmed that the 58-year-old patient’s condition was not COVID19 related
Spokesperson Craig Lambinon said, at the time, the ship was approximately 20 nautical miles off-shore of Morgan’s Bay on the Transkei coastline.
A rescue team including the SA Air Force, 15 Squadron Oryx helicopter and NSRI swimmers among others, was placed on the mission, 216 nautical miles South West of Durban.
Lambinon said the patient was airlifted and is now in a stable condition at a Durban hospital.
The Queen Mary 2 has since refuelled in Durban and departed for Southampton in the UK with the remaining 1 209 crew members and 264 passengers on board.
Six South African crew members were allowed to disembark and they will now be in isolation for 14 days.
