The former commander of the South African Defence Force and co-founder of the Freedom Front, General Constand Viljoen has died at the age of 86.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) extended their condolences to his family and loved ones.
The DA said Viljoen played an integral role in defusing the possible threat of armed violence ahead of the nation’s first democratic elections in 1994.
Viljoen is survived by his wife, Christina Heckroodt and his five children.
