Putco
Passenger bus company Putco says it will shed 214 jobs due to financial constraints triggered by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The company’s labour relations executive Pride Anozie says restrictions to the passenger-carrying capacity impacted its profit margin.
Anozie says private hire and commercial contracts were halted at the start of the lockdown, further crippling the company.
The jobs on the chopping board include operations and technical positions.
Anozie added that the government had not come to the party to try and assist the sector.
The news of retrenchments at Putco comes a day after Greyhound and Citiliner announced they were closing shop on the 14th of this month in a move which will put close on 700 employees at risk of losing their jobs.
