Public Protector hits out at ministers over Nkandla court action

Public Protector, advocate Thuli Madonsela, has hit out at government ministers for taking her to court over the Nkandla Report, saying that she regretted presenting her first draft to Ministers in the Security Cluster.

The Ministers took Madonsela to court to prevent her releasing the report, questioning her capacity to make decisions on security matters.

Speaking at a media briefing on Wednesday, Madonsela said last week's court action against her by the Ministers was unprecedented and their relationship had turned adversarial.

She also outlined several steps to depoliticise the process of releasing her report.

Madonsela said she and her team will also review government's 28-page submission with a view to ascertaining the reasonableness of the security concerns expressed by the Ministers in the Justice and Security Cluster.

She'll then alter her report if necessary and as she sees fit.

Madonsela said the provisional report will be shared with respondents and complainants for comment within 10 days.
