Prophet Bushiri and wife granted bail in multi million rand fraud case

There was jubilation outside the Gauteng Magistrate's court on Wednesday when self-proclaimed Prophet Shepherd Bushiri and his wife Mary, were released on bail of R200 000 each.

As part of their bail conditions, the couple has to hand over the original title deed to their property in Centurion valued at R5.5 million.

The Bushiri's will also have to report to their nearest police station every Monday and Friday until the case, is finalised.

They will not be allowed to travel abroad and may only travel in Gauteng and the North West Province.

The Bushiri's were arrested two weeks ago on charges of fraud, theft and money laundering involving over R100 million rand.

The couple is currently out on bail of R100 000 each in a separate matter that will soon go to trial.

They are facing charges of fraud, money laundering and the contravention of the Prevention of Organised Crime Act to an amount of R15 million.

The couple is also accused of contravening South Africa’s exchange control regulations by paying about R19 million in cash for a private jet.
