A 37-year-old man believed to be a Pastor and his wife have been arrested for their involvement in a fraud and money laundering scandal worth more than R100 million rand in Gauteng.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Katlego Mogale, says the man who attempted to evade arrest by members of the Hawks earlier on Tuesday, later handed himself over to the Silverton police station with an entourage of attorneys.
His 39-year-old wife was also earlier arrested at their home.
The Enlightened Christian Gathering Church said on its Facebook page that Prophet Shepherd Bushiri handed himself over to authorities after his wife was arrested.
They are expected to appear in the Pretoria Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
Bushiri and his wife Mary, are already facing serious charges on another matter which will go to trial in 2021.
They facing charges of contravening South Africa’s exchange control regulations after they allegedly paid R19-million-rand in cash for a private jet.
Colonel Mogale, says another couple was arrested over the weekend in connection with the same case.
Zethu and Willah Mudolo were arrested in Sandton and OR Tambo International Airport on Saturday respectively.
They appeared in court and their bail application postponed to next week.
