Probations officer in the firing line again at Pistorius trial

A defence witness in Oscar Pistorius's sentencing procedures does not know how prisons are run.

This emerged when state prosecutor, Gerrie Nel, put questions to probation officer and social worker Annette Vergeer, during cross examination in the Pretoria High Court on Wednesday morning.

Nel said that he had found it irresponsible that Vergeer would come to court and give an opinion but didn't know anything about the correctional services department when she's employed by another state department.

In her report Vergeer said that she did not think that Pistorius will be safe in prison because of his disability.

She admitted that she did not know that the Department of Correctional Services has a policy on people with disabilities.
